Activity Therapist - Autum Life Center - Full Time Days
Responsible for planning and implementing educational, recreational, and therapeutic activities and programs for Autumn Life Geriatric BHS which enhance the psychosocial support to patients and families.
Essential Function/Duties:Completes initial Adjunctive Therapy assessment of patients within 72 hours of admission to Autumn Life Geriatric BHS. Documents adjunct therapy interventions, observations, assessments and clinical data regarding patients in accordance with documentation protocol. Plans and implements age appropriate therapeutic activities on a group and individual basis that assist patients in achieving specific goals and objectives daily while on an inpatient unit. Evaluates and documents patients progress and attendance in the patients medical record and department records. Attends and interacts with interdisciplinary treatment team in developing, updating and re-evaluating patients' therapeutic treatment plan. Collaborates with other treatment team members in patient discharge planning. Works with RN Supervisor(s) to provide clinical direction to MHT/activity therapy staff and to plan, schedule and implement appropriate activity therapy groups/activities. Manages safety and orderliness of adjunct therapy work/group areas and maintains appropriate quality and variety of activity therapy supplies. Trains and oversees the work of adjunct technicians, students and volunteers.
Bachelors Degree in an activity therapy related field of study such as Therapeutic Recreation, Art Therapy, Music Therapy Three (3) years of relevant work experience*Licensure/Certification: One of the following certifications r required NCCAP National Certification Council for Activity Professionals ATR Registered Art Therapist NCTRC National Council for Therapeutic Recreation. CTRS Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):Position requires frequent standing and some walking, twisting, pushing, pulling, and bending, stooping and lifting. Use of arm muscles, leg muscles and back muscles when lifting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of recreational and occupational therapy principles and appropriate implementation. Knowledge and understanding of psychiatric theory and various treatment approaches. Knowledge of group therapy techniques, crisis intervention procedures, and therapeutic planning and techniques. Skill in performing clinical assessments. Knowledge of the principles, techniques, materials and equipment used in recreational therapy work with individuals and groups. Ability to creatively design activities for patients who have a limited range of motion and dexterity to include patience and understanding to guide them through these activities. Skill in planning programs and analyzing problems that may arise. Knowledge of performance improvement tools and how to monitor an on-going process. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely. Ability to communicate effectively with clients and co-workers. Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures. Skills sufficient for overseeing volunteers and students. Good computer skills. General knowledge of standard office procedures.
