Industries like finance, which are used to outbidding competitors for job talent on income alone, are watching the Millennial talent now take offers in other industries, where the dollar bill isn’t as prominent. What could be going on? It’s a clash between values and career and those employers that learn to attract Millennials, instead of buying them, will have more success in the future.
Is Your Job Posting Enticing Top Millennial Candidates or Turning Them Off?
Even if a company uses a job board, employers must still write up the postings with the Millennial core values in mind. Here’s at least three non-monetary items that will tempt top Millennial candidates to apply for a position with your company:
Experiences – Millennials are heavily into social and interactive experiences. Companies that can offer exotic travel locations, unbelievable networking and mentorship opportunities, and the opportunity to get into an innovative learning experience only need to highlight these experiences in their posting to get more Millennials interested in the job.
Community Building – Millennials want to promote their peers and community through their fresh grad jobs. That means that instead of just working for you, they hope to make a difference in the world, too. If your company emphasizes the social good they do in the job posting, that can help to showcase your fresh grad jobs favorably against others with this specific demographic.
Workplace Enjoyment – Millennials are far less tolerant of poor working conditions than their predecessors. They value highly jobs where they can enjoy social contacts, almost like a second family. If the environment is also pleasant and entertaining, they will be apt to stay longer.
